We went to the Auckley Show this year after an absence of two years, when Auckley was on the same date as our Perseid Meteor Watch. Different date this year, so we returned there. But the weather, usually good for the Auckley Show, was terrible, heavy cloud, high winds and very cold. We had Lesley and Dave, Vic, Sandra, Mark, Elaine and Paul. This was the 40th Birthday of the Austerfield Study Centre, a good reason to celebrate. Sadly the council is having to close it to save on its budget, and this is scheduled for 18. But, happily the council has agreed to allow it to continue as a Social Enterprise the very next day, run by Sue from the Mosaic Trust and volunteers from the village.
Boat Trip before the Eyes - March 2014. I was due to have cataracts removed from my eyes soon so we chose to take a boat trip before the event and on a very sunny day we went out to Sandall Lock for a picnic lunch. Dave and Lesley, Sandra, Peter, Mark and Paul and Elaine. The highlight was the installation of an auxiliary power unit to augment the diesel engine.
On the 18th of May, a hastily arranged departure from Strawberry Island after collecting some tomato plants for my greenhouse, started with a cup of tea, as ever. The plan was to go to the Boat Inn at Sprotbrough for lunch, and unusually it worked, a fine meal. A walk round Sprotbrough Flash, up the hill and down, about 3K. Then an ice cream and lots of puddings the girls had prepared before. Photos by Paul Booker and Peter Smith.
