Boat Trip before the Eyes - March 2014

Boat Trip before the Eyes - March 2014. I was due to have cataracts removed from my eyes soon so we chose to take a boat trip before the event and on a very sunny day we went out to Sandall Lock for a picnic lunch. Dave and Lesley, Sandra, Peter, Mark and Paul and Elaine. The highlight was the installation of an auxiliary power unit to augment the diesel engine. Sandra was there too. Subscribe to Posts Atom. Because we can boat trip

On the 18th of May, a hastily arranged departure from Strawberry Island after collecting some tomato plants for my greenhouse, started with a cup of tea, as ever. The plan was to go to the Boat Inn at Sprotbrough for lunch, and unusually it worked, a fine meal. A walk round Sprotbrough Flash, up the hill and down, about 3K. Then an ice cream and lots of puddings the girls had prepared before. Photos by Paul Booker and Peter Smith.

Hayfield GCSE Solar Observing Day

Hayfield School runs a GCSE course on Astronomy, which started in the September of 2013. This Event was the second one run by the Class teacher Jane Walls, supported by the Doncaster Astronomical Society, on the school premises. The day was forecast to be cloudy, but turned out to be clear with occasional summer clouds. The plan was to set up the equipment behind the physics lab. powered by a mains connection to the lab. During the time the telescopes were set up, sever.

Mayflower Day - May 2014

Mayflower Day, to celebrate the departure of local boy William Bradford and friends to the New World to avoid persecution in the1690s. But this is now, and it was held on the 5th of May 2014. A sort of garden party with stalls and side shows. We were there with both domes open for solar observations and photographs on show.

The Perseids in 2013

This was a good year for a change. We found the Monday to be clear too so some of us came down then too, and saw many more meteors. There were even two members hopefully taking photographs on both nights, though only two photos emerged with a meteor from at least a couple of hundreds.
