Mayflower Day - May 2014. Mayflower Day, to celebrate the departure of local boy William Bradford and friends to the New World to avoid persecution in the1690s. But this is now, and it was held on the 5th of May 2014. A sort of garden party with stalls and side shows. We were there with both domes open for solar observations and photographs on show. This was a good year for a change. We found the Monday to be clear too so some of us came down then too, and saw many more meteors. There were even two members hopefully taking photographs on both nights, though only two photos emerged with a meteor from at least a couple of hundreds. Yorkshire Wildlife Day at Potteric Carr. Yorkshire Wildlife Trust held a Weekend Event at Potteric Carr on Saturday the 30th and invited us to attend to show visitors the Sun through our telescopes during the day, at a specific time slot, then the stars, during another slot in the late evening.

Last year the Gala was cancelled because of wet ground, this year the day was the sunniest and hottest of the year, blistering. The usual helpers were there, Peter, Vic, Lesley and Dave, though they had to leave early for another appointment in Nottingham, Elaine and Paul, Sandra and Rhys. A hot day indeed but everything went well, both solar telescopes were kept busy all afternoon.
