I found it valuable to have all the different perspective in the books, but at the same time it brings about the insider outsider debate. Who has a right to write about this population? Friday, December 7, 2007. A week that I really appreciated, was the week we talked about the awards given to books. Before this class, I think I would have just picked a book because it had an award on it and not really thought twice about its contents. However, after I learned some of the criteria, I feel that I will be more careful and judge the book for myself. Tuesday, December 4, 2007. When choosing a topic, I chose African American literature, because that week had been the most interesting to me.
