La Couronne II

My Second Project - La Couronne II. On November 24, 2008 I posted these shots of my second scratch build. Compared to the first model, I would say this is a considerable improvement. Here are the two models together. My first lesson in scale. The scale of the second model is about 1100.or about 25 larger than the first version. Detail becomes considerably easier with larger scale. Did I learn something here? Wrapping up the hull planking. Carvings on the poop deck bulkheads. Return to My Home Page.

Mayflower 1 176 scale

Thursday, July 24, 2014. So my friend Chuck Passaro was kind enough to share PDF files of the plan sheets from his Model Shipways kit, which I had printed locally. turned on the lights in my shop, dug out all my tools from storage, and started making some sawdust. Great to be back in the shop again. The primary reason for taking these pics was the celebration of completing the planking of her hull. Yes, it is Miller time! Rail stanchions being added.

Mayflower 2 160th scale

Thursday, March 5, 2015. Built a display base for the small model. Flags added to both models. Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Sanding rigging and shrouds completed. Close up of the belaying within the beak. Anchors for both models completed. More shots of the deck. Adding the gratings to the beak.

Daves Mini-Victory

This model was originally built in 1978, and was my first attempt at working with wood. After all these years, I am re-visiting her in an effort to make numerous technical corrections in her structure and to incorporate as much detail in her features as possible. My Two HMS Victory Models. The mini-Vic is almost exactly half the size of her big sister. You can visit my other model ships at these links .

Sovereign of The Seas

Sunday, July 12, 2015. This is my attempt to scratch build the Sovereign of The Seas. Was ordered in August 1634 on the personal initiative of Charles I of England, who desired a giant Great Ship. But the King overcame the objections and from May 1635 she was built and was launched at Woolwich Dockyard on 13 October 1637. Using a very old set of plan sheets given to me by a friend living in Italy, I was able to cut out the keel and bulkhead parts.
