This model was originally built in 1978, and was my first attempt at working with wood. After all these years, I am re-visiting her in an effort to make numerous technical corrections in her structure and to incorporate as much detail in her features as possible. Sunday, July 12, 2015. This is my attempt to scratch build the Sovereign of The Seas. Was ordered in August 1634 on the personal initiative of Charles I of England, who desired a giant Great Ship. But the King overcame the objections and from May 1635 she was built and was launched at Woolwich Dockyard on 13 October 1637. Using a very old set of plan sheets given to me by a friend living in Italy, I was able to cut out the keel and bulkhead parts.
