Photos and Tales from the Chatter Creek Sawmill and Lumber Yard. Thursday, July 29, 2004. In June of 2002, Chatter Creek Mountain Lodges Ltd. Building site located about 100km north of Golden B. The mill was required to produce all of the dimensioned lumber for a 9300 sq. lodge to be build of logs harvested from the surrounding forest. In about 22 weeks, 24 clients will be sleeping and dining and relaxing on this spot. A bar will be in full service and guests will be playing pool and darts and reliving their day of powder sno.

In heating Vertebrae lodge, the Chatter Creek partners wanted no open fire in the lodge and no chimneys that might be damaged by the heavy snow load that the roof could collect. Tuesday, August 03, 2004. Follow the course of the log construction as the walls and floors of Vertebrae Lodge are built. It will take over six weeks to get to the roof, which will be a massive structure. The first logs are set for Vertebrae Lodge.

Friday, July 30, 2004. Except for plywood, Vertebrae Lodge was built entirely of green spruce selectively logged near the building site. Trees were felled and limbed in the bush and the logs were dragged to the site. The trees were cut before the sap rises from the roots, which results in less shrinkage as the wood cures.

This photo journal recalls some of the journey of the mill and the crane and, in general, life on the Chatter Creek road. The Chatter Creek Road is dotted with bogs, some quite deep. When vehicles get stuck, the excavator has to walk down the road to pull them out, at a loss.
