Saturday, March 24, 2018. Need an engaging activity to reinforce the instrument families? Need an emergency sub plan that can be used by a non-music sub? You should try this new resource- Instrument Family Races. This resource includes 24 instrument cards, 2 game versions, and a video demo. You only need to provide 4 or 8 hula hoops. When all the cards have disappeared, you can play in reverse. The teacher will call out an instrument and the players will race to find the correct card and bring it bac.

Friday, July 31, 2015. Last summer, I read a great blog post about why you should NOT use a clip chart in your classroom. You can find this blog post HERE. Now, being a music teacher that DOES. First, each class has a clip at the bottom of the chart. Each one of these clips is actually a little magnet for a refrigerator, but they were so bright and colorful I just had to use them for this.

I have found that having a set of specific rules and expectations for the iPads have been extremely helpful when it comes to classroom management. I see students twice a week for 30 minutes and I set aside one class to go over rules and expectations for when we use the iPads. 1 Always carry your iPad with 2 hands.

Monday, October 17, 2016. Music connects naturally with math. In fact, rhythm is. This video models how I introduce iconic rhythm notation with fraction strips. It is designed to help teachers prepare to teach this type of lesson, but it can also be used in the classroom to prepare students to compose and perform simple patterns. If used in the classroom, pause the video to further discuss math or musical concepts and adapt to student readiness.
