Lesedi is a Zulu name meaning The Light of the Community. We aim to live up to our name. Art show fundraiser event to support filmmaking workshops for teens at Lesedi Film Center. Think back to your youth. Was there an after-school or weekend program you were involved with that changed the direction of your life for the better? What is Lesedi Film Center? Lesedi opened its doors in the summer of 2007 offering filmmaking workshops in scriptwriting, directing and acting on east Tremont Ave. In early 2008, Lesedi joined the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club offering a documentary filmmaking workshop. Lesedi Film Center is currently under the direction of co-founder Allison Caviness.

Lesedi offers a variety filmmaking workshops to teens in communities of color in New York City. All our workshops are free to all participants. It is part of our mission to provide our students with a top notch education which includes hiring knowledgeable and experienced teaching artists and supplying state of the art equipment for video and sound recording, editing and digital distribution. Or by pledging a monthly contribution.
