Hopefully things are getting back to normal; where has the year gone, nearly half way through 2017! Gheerulla is an area near Kenilworth in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. I have been trying to get a decent photo of the Rufous Fantail for many years, and at long last got one. The Rufous Fantail is not an easy bird to get photos of.
Tuesday, August 11, 2015. The other day I visited Lake Alford in Gympie. This is a small lake right next to the highway coming in to Gympie. It is surrounded by well mown lawns, concrete paths and picnic tables.

Wednesday, 12 August 2015. Countdown to 600 - Top End Birds. 600 is a landmark number for a birdwatcher in Australia. Enough to warrant the creation, quite a while ago now, of the 600 Club. This was apparently the invention of the late John McKean, an eminent Australian ornithologist and birdwatcher, who was supposedly the first to see 600 species of Australian birds. And I had a target list of some 15 or so birds that I wanted to try for.

Monday, June 12, 2006. Ritual of the Gouldian is really something amazing. The male starts by curling his neck head down and sometimes moving it from side to side. He starts singing in front of the female, and then he jumps up and down on the branch. If all this works in his favor, he will get the rewards inside of a dark nest. The making of a good Gouldian nest. The Gouldians are not usually good of parents. With Gouldians does come with great rewards.
