Sandy Straits and Beyond

Sandy Straits and Beyond. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Lake Alford in Gympie. The other day I visited Lake Alford in Gympie. This is a small lake right next to the highway coming in to Gympie. It is surrounded by well mown lawns, concrete paths and picnic tables. The ponds are filled with all the more common water birds - but these are ones that I dont usually see out here on the bay. They are easy to photograph because they expect hand-outs from visitors! This is a Hardhead Aythya australis. I only look.

May 30, 2011 by madahmas. When despair for the world grows in me. And I wake in the night at the least sound. I go and lie down where the wood drake. Rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds. I come into the peace of wild things. Who do not tax their lives with forethought. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars.

missing moments

Thursday, March 2, 2017. In the past, I would have been sharing winter scenes this time of year. Aside from a ski trip or two out west with The Professor, I will happily be spending my winters in glorious Florida sunshine. Which has been greatly neglected over the past year. In January, the photo club had a fun excursion in Ybor City, a historic neighborhood of Tampa. Although I had been there before, it was fun to see it through my lens.

Out and about in Cooloola

Hopefully things are getting back to normal; where has the year gone, nearly half way through 2017! Gheerulla is an area near Kenilworth in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. I have been trying to get a decent photo of the Rufous Fantail for many years, and at long last got one. The Rufous Fantail is not an easy bird to get photos of.

Straddie again, sorry for the delay in this post as I have been ill for a few weeks but am on the mend now thanks to my mum - she made me go to the doctor. Well it was a great trip this time although not as many sea birds as in the seagulls and terns, although the Pied Oystercatchers were up in numbers from previous months. There were also quite a few pelicans around on Flinders Beach this time, and this particular one was feeding near some local fisher folk.

Tuesday, 15 May 2012. Lanhydrock country house and garden. It was a really nice walk and one that we had not done before, so it was really good to find something different in a place that was visited so often. A few photos taken last sunday on a beautiful day the gardens were full of colour and the smell of the flowers too were brilliant. Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Sunday, 22 April 2012.
