Had a look locally on the Thames for Yellow legs today, firstly at Rainham where several adult birds were on the foreshore. Had a couple of flyby juvenile birds fly east, but none hung around for any photo opportunities. The afternoon proved more productive with this cracking juvenile first picked up on the tanks at Beckton sewage works before flying around almost checking me out along the creek. Arriving mid-afternoon on Lockwood as the first phase of storms had past, there was much optimism in connecting with something displaced as a result of the lively weather. Limited rewards were a single Lapwing. That had settled on the shoreline before taking off high before heading south. Were down in number from previous days, and my first Green Sandpiper. On the northside, and a juvenile Greater Black Backed Gull.

Monday, 2 January 2017. 2017 New year new lists. The year has got off to a slow start as I did not set out on New Years Day to do a bird list. I spent January 1 in and around the garden and Bangor West and today was spent on a drive to Tollymore Forest Park and a walk. Nevertheless some good birds were spotted. The garden produced all that I expected including long-tailed tit and blackcap. The first on the patch in two year.
