The fascinating thing about ceramic destruction is that nothing is revealed until the fragments are painstakingly reassembled when the forces gradually become clear. It is like a strange reverse slow-motion.
Inspired by the natural world and intrigued by the diversity in evolution, my work for this exhibition explores ambiguous relationships between nature and the human body.
I am a naturalist recording a world fast approaching a cataclysmic change. As I continue to draw I bring a shadow of immortality to the life I capture. The laws are different here. Is the truth always literal? Must it be literal to be true? My current work obviously bears a connection to Beuys story - the only problem I would hope to avoid is grandiosity . Friday, 1 May 2009.
