Die Auseinandersetzung mit der Natur ist eine Konstante in Ute Laums Werk. Die Künstlerin bildet die Natur nicht ab, wie wir es bei Blossfeldts Pflanzenbildern und Max Ernst Natur-Frottagen kennen, vielmehr will sie die Natur durchdringen, kurzum wie die Natur malen. Dazu wählt sie eine biomorphe abstrakte Formensprache. Dr B Aust-Wegemund, Kunsthistorikerin Hamburg.
Die Antwort des Kunstwerkes richtet sich nach der Frage des Betrachters und nur wer die Frage nach seinem Wesentlichen an es heranträgt, dem antwortet dieses Wesentliche. Immer wieder fasziniert von der unverwechselbaren norddeutschen Landschaft. Suche ich nach Möglichkeiten, meine Eindrücke künstlerisch bildhaft umzusetzen. Dabei kommen mir die hier herrschenden, ganz speziellen Lichtverhältnisse für meine Art der abstrakten und expressiven Malerei.
