We have spent a sunny, warm and very lovely week in the gorgeous town of Lech in the Austrian Alps. A bit of morning fog in the Lech Valley. Skiing is sooooo much fun right now. Long lunch in the sun. Self portrait - a day of really warm skiing. Where to go next? Healthy Central Europe Alp food. Watching the world ski by. Not in a hurry to hit the slopes. Perhaps one more espresso? Lech is very pretty. After-ski is a very civilized affair in Lech.

Namib Desert and Sossusvlei, Nakluft and out all the way through the desert to the coast at Swakopmund. Up north along the Skeleton Coast to Cape Cross before heading inland. Spitzkoppe, Brandbergen and Grootberg pass. A few days in Etosha heading down south back to Windhoek via Okonjima. Solitaire is a small place in the middle of nowhere with a gas station, shop and a bakery. They have the best apfelstrudel this side of the Tyrole.

The Amalfi Coast is supposedly one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in the world, sheer mountainside plummeting into the sun-sparkled sea. And it was truly amazingly beautiful. We visited for 9 days in November 2008. Hiking, swimming in the bay of Salerno, eating good food and drinking local wine. The Coast and Marina di Furore. First evening at Costiera Amalfi. We were amazed how very beautiful it was, and the size of the mountains. Very promising for the hikes to come! The very beutiful e.
