South West Coast Path - Day 10. The magic of the SWCP disappeared for me when the sea on my right became estuary and the hills ahead levelled out. The path between Braunton and Westward Ho! Will bring variety to the longer distance walker but it is not a route that particularly appeals to me.

Seeing some of Britain on foot. June 20, 2015 by john. Weather overcast mostly and humid. I was aware the grand union canal had a second side arm joining the Thames and how to see it resulted in planning a circular walk. so i start with my arrival at Paddington station. At one point the canal disappears in a short tunnel but this was no problem just following the road ahead and then find a sign for access back down to the tow path where the tunnel ends.

A quiet stretch along the Ripon Canal. Despite considerable time spent planning my itinerary I somehow managed to book my accommodation such that I was forced to travel on a bank holiday Monday. What was I thinking? My next destination was Ripon. A 52-mile journey by car but a six hour odyssey by bus. The two hour drive to York.
