Sunday, March 18, 2018. Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge near Titusville, Florida. Have seen many American Bitterns over my birding career, but seldom have I seen them out in the open like this bird I found along the Black Point Wildlife Drive in Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. Most bitterns I see are hidden or partially hidden within the reed beds.
Thursday, March 15, 2018. Yesterday Julie Long of Sanibel made a great find in a Yellow-breasted Chat feeding in a ficus tree at. Lakes Park located near Ft Myers. The chat is a very rare find in our area, so very quickly, dozens of local birders have visited the spot. Many birders have gotten some pretty nice pics. The bird is only my second sighting, after getting my lifer last year at Sugden Park in Naples. This Downy Woodpecker was busy in the ficus as well. Monday, March 12, 2018.

It does take on aspects of mental illness after a while, though. As beautiful as they are, some birds, like northern parulas, are just too easy to photograph to be a real challenge. My favorite film image of a least bittern .
