El puerto marítimo de Salou tiene sus inicios en el año 1228 cuando el Rey Jaume I decide reunir allí a toda su flota y zarpar para conquistar Mallorca. En el año 1766 se construye la iglesia de Sta. María del Mar y poco después se construye el muelle y se edifica la Capitanía y la Nueva Aduana en la calle Barcelona. En el año 1989 el tribunal supremo concede a Salou su total independencia.
