When working in project with many collaborators and a gigantic code base, define global functions with names very similar to standard library functions. Oh, and of course use the same inputs and return type. Implement the function to do the same thing as the corresponding library function. Then, after a while, change the implementation to something similar but not quite the same as the original function.
