Our school is working hard to achieve our Green Flag for travel. Our aim is to reduce car travel and to promote walking on the school journey. Today we had our first organised walk to school. Our first Tip Toe Thursday was a huge success. The weather was lovely, and parents and children enthusiastically walked from Mervue, Ballybane, Merlin and Renmore to be at school today. We are so proud of all who walked, cycled, scooted or skated to school today. And one class winner is.

We started off Space Week 2016 by making rocket mice. We made the circles into cones and stuck on ears and tails. We used empty bottles as launchers. We launched rocket balloons with Ms. First of all we had to try and figure out a way for our balloons to fly in a straight line.

We wondered if this gas could power a small rocket. It did, and caused the rocket to blast off. We also decided that this could be done with fizzy tablets and water or with coke and mentos sweets. We must try these sometime. Cutting a rectangular card into a square, then into 2 equal triangles gives nice fins for the rocket.
