Came down for a drink. Adult Great-black backed Gull.

Regents Park Birds

A listing of birds seen, for birdwatchers. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Common migrants numbers are still fairly low, however if you are patient and in areas with suitable habitat you never know what might appear. One was in or around the Old Golf and Tennis School enclosure, area 39. A family were in bushes in area 32. A cracking fresh plumaged bird was also in area 39. 20 in area 31, 32, 39 and 41.

Thursday, July 09, 2015. Honey with a touch of the east. One of my main target species when I was in Eilat was Oriental Honey Buzzard. The mystery surrounding there occurrence in Eilat, recent discovery, eastern flavour, ID challenge and the thought of picking them out of kettles of European Honey Buzzards drew me towards them.

I had to work the next day, so time would be tight then too and Holkham was only a small detour off my normal route. It was worth a try and I set off hoping the traffic gods would smile on me. Further off, but with better light. Good call as it turned out. I stopped on Hugh Town beach for some Turnstones. Looking at the people on the quayside above. And this surprisingly pale Gannet. As dark drew near we saw more stormies and shearwaters, and Joe caught 3 blue sharks.

A Busy Bee Day in the Garden. Willow Beauty I think! Marbled Beauty, Bryophila domestica. Pill Woodlouse, Armadillidium vulgare. Solitary Bees hotel with many cells now full with nests of the Leaf-cutter Bee. This Honey Bee has a slight colour variation.
