Wednesday, October 28, 2009. But instead of rotting fish, the trail smells like rotting fruit. Instead of mosquitos, there are fruit flies. Instead of stopping to pick wild cranberries, I stop to shake a guava tree and catch the ripe ones that fall out. And instead of finding snow and ice and Dall sheep at the top of the mountain, I find a view of this green green island and the blue blue ocean all around. Wednesday, October 21, 2009.

Monday, January 26, 2009. In driving down I-95 last night, as it runs through rural Virginia headed for North Carolina, my husband at the wheel and me at the ipod dock, I found myself once again desiring to listen to one song and one song only. As I began to scroll through the album titles in search of Rattle and Hum. A gospel piece and as such, it provides a strange, yet real comfort to me. Yes Do I know that I am never abandoned, never alone? .
