Guerilla Knitting for New Art Exchange, Nottingham. In January 2011 I was commissioned to run a series of workshops for the brilliant New Art Exchange. Contemporary art centre in Nottingham. I held workshops at the local Berridge Junior school, teaching knitting skills, resulting in the creation of Guerilla knit pieces which were installed in the cafe space at NAE during January. At lunchtime I went to meet Ian at the old college site to have a look at some of the new graffiti that has gone up in the last week. At the weekend Sheffield graffiti artists Faunagraphic and Rocket01 did an amazing collaborative wall with a French artist joining them. Also painted lamppost have appeared this week with gorgeous lace print patterns and gold stenciled cats and stars. Exciting happenings! I also taught Anita to crochet flowers. Ian, Bailey, Ester and Anita knitting and pompom making.
I was commissioned by Red Nile Projects. As part of their Factory Nights series of unique commissions, to create new work based on the. Stoke-on-Trent National Garden Festival Park site which opened in 1986. I visited the now underused park as part of Red Nile Factory Nights event in August 2011 and took part in a tour led by Anna Francis. An artist and local expert on the history of the park.
