One of the more optimistic things a naturalist can do in South Florida is to discover areas that, counter to the usual tendency for urban and suburban sprawl, are being converted from manicured lawns and sterile pools back into natural areas. I first came across the Pondhawk Natural Area.
My current work consists of wall hanging metal sculptures created from ordinary steel cut nails as well as handpainted lawn and plant sculptures made from brass and copper. The pieces are then finished with a multiple step process utilizing fine glass beads, high air pressure, and wire brushing. The result is a finish that is maintenance free.
