Railfile - Burton and Ashby Light Railway. Friday, 6 November 2015. The Burton and Ashby Light Railway. Newhall is a town between Swadlincote and Buton on Trent with a population of around 7400. Tram at Newhall, 1913. A tram bound for Ashby on the Burton and Ashby Light Railway, at Stanhope Bretby in April 1913. This tramline was owned and built by the Midland Railway in 1905-1906. A little known 3 feet gauge line in Ireland was the Glaway and Salthill Tramway, which ran from 1879 to 1918, connecting the two towns in its title by a line 2. It was horse worked and single track throughout.
