Quarters One. My Life in the Commanding Generals Quarters. The home of the commanding general at Fort Riley, Kansas, Quarters One is a 9,000 square foot historic home built in 1887. When it was constructed it overlooked the cavalry school and its training fields. Today, it has a shady view of the beautiful surrounding historic main post neighborhood and the Flint Hills of Kansas. This is my story of our time in Quarters One from 2011-2013. I have yet to discover any reliable text that displays the battlefield use of a staff as being anything more than a circumstantial occurence dependant on the financial wealth of a given army.
