The plants that are found on Madagascar as much smaller then the African form. Not that are of a fern to grow. Like it a little wormer then most.
These are some nice examples of how this Platycerium can be grown. Thanks to Rebecca for the photos. Moist; 1 waterings per week. This is the most common of all the Platycerium ferns. Can take cold temps and still live. Grate staghorn fern for beginners.

This is a plant out of the late Carlos Tatsuta. The fronds are upright then other elephantotis. Like dryer moss them most species. Platycerium elephantotis thanks atmccmn for the photos.
The shields of Platycerium ellisii are thin and have a wax shine to them. Most of the time the shields are brown and create a round clasping shape around the bud and roots. I was told by a friend in Madagascar that this species was hard to find and after a long hunt was found growing in Mangrove forests. When well grown it produces lots of pups and makes a nice specimine.
