Wednesday, May 29, 2013. When I was a youngster, studying piano, my teacher often gave me boogie pieces to learn. I loved them! Last year, I studied jazz theory with Russell Schmidt at the University of Utah. What a fun class that was! I like the fact that the pieces are all different, with some being a little crazy. It is the craziness that makes them so much fun.
Friday, May 31, 2013. I began writing Sacred Hymn Arrangements for piano solo shortly after my mission, around 1975 or 1976. The first one I wrote was A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief. I made changes to this piece several times over the intervening years, and finally came up with the version that is included in Volume 1. Which is the top honor in the instrumental category. This is the first piece in Hymn Arran.
