Why then, do people like us and many other backpackers feel compelled to jump off the bus at this particular point? We did learn to surf though. Kinda. We hired bikes and asked a lovely old lady where we could cycle, but we began to suspect a distaste of the English as we ended up pushing our bikes up a seemingly endless hill.
