Today Penny, Anne B, Marc and newcomer Caroline and I met up for some snorkelling on Deerness. First stop was Sandside Bay over on the East side of Deerness. Friday, 8 June 2012. BDMLR Marine Mammal Medics course - 2 Jun 12. After lunch it was down to the beach for the practical session.

Orkney is an excellent place for birds and as an island group sat where the Atlantic Ocean meets the North Sea you never know what might turn up. Now which way is the wind coming from . On arrival on site there were certainly some good numbers of both Redwings and Fieldfares in the area. We set five nets in total and by the time we had the first two setup we were already getting Goldcrests. All in all a good ringing session with a good mixture of species to help towards obtaining my permit. It was pretty.CONTENT
