The other alternative of transportation is using taxi. If you travel with 2-3 other people, taxi will cost the same as minivan. We took taxi from airport to Rassada pier for 700 THB and from Patong beach to airport for 1000 THB. The speedboat was nice, 2 level seating area and empty deck above. Many people just seat outside on the floor and enjoying the breeze while having extravaganza view. No need to rent snorkeling equipment, no need to make your body wet, just dip your feet, and yo.
