Mysore was the capital of the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. The city is dotted with grand palaces, art galleries, universities and sculptures, in a quirky blend of British and Indian architectural styles. Watered by the sacred river Cauvery, the countryside around Mysore is lush and fertile. You can see some splendid Hoysala temples in the countryside, stop at the serene Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, or visit some peaceful villages.
