Mysore was the capital of the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. The city is dotted with grand palaces, art galleries, universities and sculptures, in a quirky blend of British and Indian architectural styles. Watered by the sacred river Cauvery, the countryside around Mysore is lush and fertile. You can see some splendid Hoysala temples in the countryside, stop at the serene Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, or visit some peaceful villages.
Friday, March 13, 2009. The regent of Mysore at the time, Maharani Kempa Nanjammani Vani Vilasa Sannidhana, commissioned a British architect, Henry Irwin, to build yet another palace in its place. The architect was directed to combine different styles of architecture in the construction of the palace. The construction was completed in year 1912.
