From Banglatown to Bangladesh

From Banglatown to Bangladesh. A Journey of a VSO Volunteer. Saturday, 13 November 2010. Sheep, Anchor butter, Lord of the Rings, stunning landscapes, low population density, high quality-of-life. These are things I associate with New Zealand, although not necessarily in that order. My limited knowledge is clearly not something to be proud of, but its a place that Ive never been, and somewhere that feels very far away from where I am now. The New Zealand in the Hills. And the Return to London? Are co.

Floating Planet

Sunday, September 27, 2009. Moving on - new site. I realize I have left this blog to sit for longer than expected. The absence of postings is a result of me taking the time to shift my photography blog into a new space. With that I am excited to say the new blog is up an running. You can find it by clicking here. This is, therefore, my last posting to Floating Planet! Thank you one and all for following my first blog. I look forward to your comments and insights on the new version.

Learning to Bangla in the Desh

The story of my journey from privilege and partying in Oxford, to volunteering in rural Bangladesh. My home away from home, is a small town in Dinajpur district, north-western Bangladesh. It has a population of about 350 000 people, including a significant minority of indigenous communities. A major railway junction during the colonial era, it is now more of a sleepy backwater, dotted with crumbling red-brick bungaloes, where buffaloes are more common than cars.
