May and I bought our house in Stirling in 1976. It was built in 1830 and the original garden was on three rather awkward levels. The person we bought it from had found it hard to sell the property and had hit on a wonderful idea. He bulldozed the old wash-house into the garden and levelled it with slag from nearby coal fired power stations. The idea was to make the house into an office and create a car park out of the garden.
Black, purple, red, pink, blue, orange, and white - plain or parrots, May has grown them all.
May has always had a soft spot for plants that produce white flowers. For several years the colour sceme in the small garden at the front of the house was restricted to green and white. A mini Sissinghurst as inspired by Vita Sackville-West. The photos include Agapanthus, White Bluebells, Astrantia umbellatus alba, Peonia godaisyu and Campanula glomerata alba.
But now and again it can go down to -10 C and the snow can pile up. The photo above was taken in December and is the view from our kitchen window.
Over the years, May has alway had a succession of yellow flowers growing in various sections of the garden.
