Friday, 9 October 2009. Components are drawn using CAD software. Sent to a nesting program which arranges components in a way that creates least waste. Sheet metal is placed on the bed of the cutter. Design is cut out using a high heat plasma arc. Components are finished and ready for machining. A metal box is partly filled with sand and resin. A shape made of wood or plastic is placed on to the first layer. The piece is now ready for polishing.

Non-Ferrous Alloys-Mixture of two or more metals not containing Iron. High Carbon Steel-Harder than Mild Steel. Can be hardened and tempered.

Ferrous metals- metals that contain iron and carbon. Non ferrous metals- Metals that do not contain iron. These metals do not rust. Brass- quite strong, corosion resistant maileable, ductile and looks good.
