As 2009 draws to a close, I have been reflecting on all I have learned this year about work, about the lack of work, and about finding myself again. Mary Fitzgerald is a researcher specialising in the Euro-Mediterranean region with a particular focus on Libya. After arriving in Benghazi days after anti-Gaddafi protests erupted there in February 2011, she spent several months in Libya reporting on the uprising that followed.
