Bedfordshire lace collar, inspired by autumn leaves in a local arboretum. This was worked for my City and Guilds Diploma, and used threads which I hand dyed before using in the lace. Each leaf is a different colour to its neighbour, representing the fallen leaves in autumn. The design is asymmetrical, reflecting on the random nature of the leaves. Friday, 14 August 2009. Wednesday, 5 January 2011. Vital Statistics of Lace Exhibition. My first solo exhibition is arranged for this year in Derby - full details can be found at Vital Statistics of Lace. I finally got the photographs taken of this piece of lace. It was one of the most difficult pieces of lace to photograph because of the size of it. Hopefully it will look good in my exhibition later this year.

I started bobbin lace making on a residential course in 1992 and immediately became totally immersed in this absorbing art form. During the intervening years I have completed many courses, in all areas of lacemaking, both bobbin and needlelace, taking up designing in 1998, and have more recently started teaching lace.
During the summer of 2008, I worked voluntarily at Pickfords House Museum, Derby. As part of the University of Derby, Career Development Mentoring Scheme. My mentor, Elizabeth Spencer, was so impressed with my dedication and enthusiasm that she nominated me for the award, which I was presented with at the awards evening on 13th May 2009.

As the old year is running out, it is time to take a trip down memory lane. Today, I am rereading old posts and remembering my adventures, both quiet and wild. Was that really me living like that? Much has happened this year. Most importantly, I got myself a new job. This blog has followed me from Russia to Denmark, to Estonia and back again since 2008. It is time to close it down.
