SeaWomen is a project by the artist Mikhail Karikis focusing on the community of elderly female pearl and seafood divers on the South Korean island of Jeju in the North Pacific. Among other issues, this project investigates the aural subculture of the women, their ancient breathing technique and eco-feminist dimension of their work. The artwork comprises a multi-speaker sound installation, a 30-minute film, photographs and a series of watercolour paintings.
