Restoring Reading Deficits

Saturday, 28 August 2010. There is no reason why EVERY child should not achieve Level 5 in English at Key Stage 2, including those for whom Level 2 is predicted. The consensus view that only those who achieve Level 5 in English about one third are fully equipped to tackle the secondary school curiculum and about one fifth of pupils will leave school less than functionally illiterate! If we do not change the way we teach reading, that horrendous statistic will never change. 8216;Hot Reading. 2 On Tuesd.

Reading Comprehension

No child who has completed thirty six of these exercises as we recommend, has achieved less than a Level 5 in English at Key Stage 2.

Dictation Exercises

It is our experience that no child who completes twenty-four of these dictation exercises at a rate of two per week, ever achieves less than Level 5 in English at Key Stage 2. No teacher should be in any doubt as to the very high value of this course in terms of extending literacy skills at Key Stage 2. The Dictation sessions specifically exercise.

Library Exercises

Children must be taught that the purpose of the computer preparation is so that they will be able to read the passage to an adult, with few if any errors. Children must learn to use the library without adult intervention or direct supervision. Any adult intervention, interferes with the reading process which is an anti-social, receptive activity.

The Reading Process

They must understand that reading. Hot Reading involves both Reading. The reading process is illustrated and examined in greater depth in Restoring Reading Deficits. It is available online by clicking here.
