This entry was posted in 책. 에딘버러대 앞에는 서점이 있을거 같았다. 살짝 둘러보니 블랙웰 서점이 보였다. 수년전 영국에서 처음 봤을때 느낀 감흥까지는 아니었지만 여전히 고풍스러운 외관이 매력적이었다. 책은 새책을 팔더라도 내부 분위기는 고색창연하게 남겨두는 것은 근사한 전략이다. 블랙웰에서 불과 수 미터 떨어진 곳에 Southside Books 라는 헌책방이 있었다. 거대 유통자본을 지척에 두고 숨이 붙어있는 용감한 점주는 도대체 누구란 말인가. 간판에 쓰인 디스카운트가 이곳의 무기란 말인가, 의구심을 떨치지 못하고 책방에 들어섰다. 자그마한 공간에는 성당에서 울려퍼질 법한 합창곡이 잔잔하게 흐르고 있었다. 책방 주인은 의외로 나릿나릿한 여유로운 이였다. 멋적어서 인사를 먼저 하니 큰손 단골 고객을 맞이하듯이 환하게 웃는다.
