The Adventures of Hotard

This blog will catalog my experiences applying to, preparing for, and serving in the Peace Corps. I hope to keep interested friends and family updated, as well as help other who are thinking about applying for the program. Thursday, November 24, 2011. Peace Corps Kazakhstan is closing. Which goes into a better explanation of the situation. This past year, the Kazakhstan government began hiring more foreign teachers to work in the best schools in Kazakhstan.

Saturday, August 13, 2011. I then went home and did the last of my packing up. Oksana, Ludmilla Sergeevna, Ludmilla Iosifovna, and Me! I left the next day to go into to Kokshetau to stay the night before getting a taxi to Astana. Ludmilla, her husband and daughter came to pick up me and my luggage. I had a tearful goodbye with my Babushka, who told me I was like the daughter she never had. A taxi was at the offic.

Saturday, September 18, 2010. Just past the Parque Omar sign I see a large Ameiva-like lizard. It appears to be about 160 SVL at best guess. Body is purplish black with yellow speckling but no striping, a blue-green tail and greenish head. It ran off before I could get a pic. On the first bridge out of Cope I found a dead bat. Very long tail and a slender body.
