Van der Horst Family Photo Gallery. Camping Trip to Custer State Park in South Dakota. Had a great camping trip to South Dakota this past week! We were able to do just about everything we wanted. We stopped at Independence Rock in Wyoming for lunch on the drive out. It is called Independence Rock because if the wagon trains could reach this spot by Independence Day then they had a fair chance of making it over the Rocky Mountains before the winter set in.
