A 62 magnitude earthquake took place in Armenia, Colombia on Monday, 25 January in 1999. It was the strongest and most catastrophic earthquake to have hit Colombia for 16 years. The movement of the South American Plate was linked to the event. The area has a high seismic risk because it had a triple junction where the Naza, Cocos and Pacific plate will incline towards.

Personally, I think that the government should set-up an emergency evacuation plan just in case this unfortunate event ever happens again. They should also have emergency transport on standby when the warnings are given for the people in the cities and villages to evacuate.
