Adventure Joy in South Africa! Thank you for all of your love and support I am so excited to share this experience with all of you! Thursday, July 7, 2011. I have used this blog as personal reflections of my own experiences. However, I recently read this poem and had to post it because it sums up so much of what I am feeling as I prepare to leave South Africa. I found it in a great book Awesome South Africa. Not because I was born there.
I served as a volunteer for a year in Bloemfontein, South Africa, through the Young Adults in Global Mission program through the ELCA. My term of service was August 2010-August 2011. This is where I detailed some of my experiences. Sunday, July 10, 2011. Goodbye, The Beloved Country. In August 2010, I boarded a plane to Chicago in which would be the beginning of my year living abroad.
Tuesday, August 16, 2011. These are some final thoughts from South Africa which I wrote around late July and was unable to post until now due to lack of internet and due to some post YAGM travel through Zambia and Malawi on my way home. I used to see myself as a rather conservative right leaning American but lately after reading what I write in my sp.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. This verse, which forms the basis of my favorite hymn written by Martin Luther, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God. There are many ways that God is our refuge and strength. Sometimes, they are ways that we least expect.
