Do you ever feel guilty when you are spending valuable classroom time on content area instruction when there are children in your class who are not reading at grade level? You get to teach those fabulous content area themes without the guilt, knowing that you are building background knowledge for students who may not have the real-life experiences that they need to make meaning of.
Week in Review- LAST WEEK! We finished our kindergarten year and what a fun year it was. The last week is full of days that are not the same and rarely follow a specific routine.

The thoughts, ideas, and organization of August have slipped into something new. Does this happen to you? Each year, it does to me. In just the last couple of weeks Ive instituted two major changes YOGA BALLS and TABLES. I figure if need be I can always grab a desk or two back. I wish all of you a happy break!CONTENT

Friday, January 20, 2012. I love the No Opt Out technique Doug Lemov shares in his book, Teach Like a Champion. The key idea is this; when a student is unable or unwilling to answer a question move on to someone else. Once the student has heard the correct answer repeat the question and have the student give the answer. You provide the answer; the student repeats the answer.
