Glencoe mountaineer

Wednesday, 21 October 2015. The last 9 months. A lot has changed since my last blog post in February, but a lot of my time is still being spent up in the mountains and exploring Scotlands wild places. I currently sell articles and images but its my ambition to go fully pro at some point in the future, so this year has all been about working as hard as possible towards this goal. Which has taken me into some surprising and truly impressive subterranean places. Some things never change however, and lik.

Welcome to the website of British writer and editor Alex Roddie. Set in the 19th century with a strong flavour of adventure. I am fascinated by the early days of mountaineering in Britain and the Alps, and my fiction reflects the legendary atmosphere of that heroic time. To learn about my books, or check out the blog. I am also a freelance editor.

The purpose of this blog is to report on winter climbing conditions in Snowdonia, to keep you lot who like nothing better than climbing ice, snow, frozen turf etc in ridiculously low temps informed! As well as it being a record of some of my own winter climbing adventures. Feel free to email me any of your own conditions reports and photos you have and I will post them here. The more info on winter conditions the better! Tuesday, 11 February 2014. Monday, 20 January 2014. Friday, 10 January 2014.

The time has come and I can put it off no longer. The coming of a new year often heralds thoughts of what we have done, things we could have done differently and the things we hope to do in the year ahead. As a photographer I suppose the obvious question is where is my photography going and where do I hope to take it in 2016? The answer to that is nowhere! Closer to home, with.

The route was climbed on April 25 and is one of a number of high-altitude Cairngorms new routes climbed this spring. I would like to thank everyone.

Fell top stories and associated adventures

Fell top stories and associated adventures. We started after parking the car walking into the valley along a well trodden path. A little bit of upwardness followed by a nice flattish path then more upwardness meant we gained some initial height quite quickly. At the top we walked through another valley with Mickledor straight in front and a tasty gully to our left which was our route up the next part of the hill .

traineemountainleader A record of mountain leader training from start to finish hopefully

I have had time to reflect on the weekends walk. There were some important lessons that I need to make sure I pick up on and learn from for future walks. I wanted to note them all down here so that I can refer back to them at a later date once my Mountain Leader specific training really starts to ramp up in the summer.
