March 31 is the birthday of Lefty Frizzell. Frizzell was an oil field worker by trade, following in the footsteps of his father, but soon his weekend hobby of playing his music in local honky tonks began to take priority. At one particular show at the Ace of Clubs in Big Spring, record producer Don Law heard Frizzell and signed him to Columbia Records.
