Charnwood Ringers Leicestershire

Andy has been working with Forestry Commission in the National Forest for some time now. This has included general conservation work but also bird ringing. Two of the fields at one site are superb in the winter for Snipe and related species, so it was time to organize a mist net session to catch and ring the visiting waders. North Ronaldsay Bird Observatory

Overcast and very calm first thing on the 10. The good conditions also led to a great days birding with lots of obvious vis mig going on including the first decent arrival of 71 Wheatears.

Souter Bird Observatory

It was a very windy morning with a force 5 gusting 6-7. The wind dropped by the afternoon and a few sheltered nets were opened. Photos were sent to Martin Garner for confirmation. Both Martin and Adam Hut agreed that it was a Northern Treecreeper. A much quieter day with only 10 new birds. A yellow-browed warbler was trapped on the second round. Wednesday, 27 August 2014.

South Notts Ringing Group

Ramsdale Park Golf Centre, Tuesday 11 August. Having tried and failed to get another visit in to Ramsdale last week Jim and I got there this morning. The weather was calm with variable cloud and we set a line of eight 18m nets and had two mixed warbler recordings playing.

UEA Ringing Group

First Waxham visit of the spring brings Portuguese Control Willow Warbler. Earlier in the week the forecast had predicted the wind to swing round from the constant North-Easterly to have some southerly in it, alongside this a band of light rain was predicted.

Bird ringing in South Lincolnshire

Thursday, August 1, 2013. Group ringing session at Marston 27 July 2013. On Saturday we were joined by Donna Staples and members of the Mid Lincs. Ringing Group for a session at Marston, in the reed beds. It was supposed to be a ringing demonstration from 09. 00 but unfortunately only a couple of people attended in spite of advertisements.
