Friday, August 1, 2008. Last week began with a community review meeting on gender equality. Community review is the part of the DAPP Child Aid Project where area leaders collect reports from the voluntary community committees that train villagers.
Sunday, August 17, 2008. On the bus to Tamale, wedged between too many sweating bodies in stale, soft-rock ridden air, I am witnessing climate crisis happening. In the early morning, I meet the motorbike called to take me to the transit station. Our load is cumbersome but manageable, as it was the first night I arrived. We ride carefully and reach our point of transfer; I buy my ticket, I stow my luggage, and I say my goodbyes to the driver. Thursday, August 14, 2008.
Tuesday, October 7, 2008. I feel like I need to clear up some thoughts. I am writing this as a response to my previous blog post, the Mazungu Life. Was I underestimating my Malawian friends and family? I think so now. They know rich Malawians who have it all, they know that their money brings them more trouble because now they have more people to take care of.
I am one of the two Junior Fellows from the Memorial University of Newfoundland Chapter of Engineers Without Borders. I am originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia. My placement this summer is in Tuna, located in the Northern Region. I am working with the Tuna Womens Development Network. I am very excited to work with women farmer groups.
