Saturday, April 07, 2007. The Mt. Mitchell Trail begins in a small Forest Service campground beside the Toe River. This is the high holy ground of the Cherokee Indians. The Toe River tumbles, slips and sluices and slides and bubbles its way back and forth from the slopes of the highest range in the Appalachians. Every so many feet another little rivulet, another little stream joins the playful current of the Toe.
